Betty Crocker does.....BABY FOOD!

This is my How to make baby food at home post.

*Disclaimer, I have ZERO clue what I am doing, I just do alot of homework from other mommas and wing it.*
To start I made carrots, peaches and avacado since that is what I bought at market this week.

#1: First thing is first. Get fresh fruit and veggies. I went with my girls and Hankers to the city market down town to get fresh produce. CHEAP and amazing. Don't get me started on my city market rant again. Grocery store is great too but I love the market. This week we got all of this for $11.50.
Broccoli ($1 for bunch) , Green Beans ($2/lb), Carrots (5 for $1), Limes (9 for $1), Pineapple $1.50), Peaches (3 for $1), corn (2 cobs for $1), Bell peppers (3 for $1) and new potatoes ($2/lb)
Between me and Ali and Audra this is all we bought home :) Fresh gorgeous flowers for $5.

I told him to stop screetching in public.

Check out my parking spot! VIP

Anyway....
#2- Prep fruit and veggies. I peeled and cut up the carrots, and peel the peaches and scraped all the meat out of the avacado.
#3- For carrots I put them in my trusty baby food maker that steams and purees in one. (I did this with peaches too)

It steams and then once it's finished you puree to the consistency you want and either add the water that dripped from the steam into the bottom or breastmilk. I added both to thin it out pretty runny for him.

#4- Then I poured the puree into my freezer molds and froze it. Those 5 chunky carrots made 30oz of puree. For $1....so yes it's much cheaper! And yes it's healthier, it's not shelf stable so there are no preservatives and it has some breastmilk snuck in so double nutrients. Yay!

#5- pop the cubes out and freeze in a gallon freezer ziplock bag with label and date. Then when I am ready, I just pop out a cube into his bowl and thaw it out and away we go. Then it's easy to take on the go (grab a cube of carrots, a cube of pears etc) and it's easy to have a good variety at all times without having to make it that night.

I did peaches in the food maker too and the three peaches made 12oz, an avacado only made 4oz because the majority of the avacado is pit. For the avacado I just mashed it up really well and mixed it with breastmilk until it was thinner and then froze.

EASY EASY EASY. Now I know that this seems like alot of work to some but I made all three of those in 1 hour on a sunday night while Taylor played with Henry and I have TONS of food. To put it in perspective Henry barely finishes a 1oz cube when I feed him with cereal too so it will last a while for now. I have heard alot of talk about this baby led weaning lately and I don't know alot more about it than you skip purees and go strait to soft chunks of real people food that you are eating. To that I say, when I have my 3rd kid and I can't remember my name and have no time to puree seperate food for the baby I might consider throwing cheerios and chunks of mushy peach at him but for now this is fun for me and Henry loves it so puree we will do.

Kylie Got Married!!!!

Kylie Got Married!!
August 15, 2014
We left Henry with my parents at our house for the night and went with my good friend Audra to Kylie's wedding. We thought it was in blue springs (that is where the reception was) but it was really in Odessa and so we were about 10 minutes late. Everyone was seated but the wedding hadn't started quite yet when we got there.
The wedding was at Berry Acres inside this barn because it had been raining off and on all day.
See the time says 7:07. The wedding was supposed to start at 7pm. Whoops!

But the plus side is that we had to sneak in the back, where the BRIDE was hiding!
She looked absolutely amazing. Like a real life barbie.
This is our, oops we are late face.

It was so much fun to see her just before she married Brian!

We got to watch her and her daddy get ready to walk down the aisle.

This is as good as it gets when you have to sit in the way back.

The cake table and behind it the desert goody bag bar.

 Me and Auddy!

We had a blast, it was so great to celebrate with Mr. and Mrs. Lee!

5 month photo dump

Aunt-E came over to make Pop's birthday "cake" and hung out with Hankers.

I started working on refinishing my chairs.

Until Taylor felt bad jealous that I was using power tools and jumped in to "help" me.

So we watched him and took selfies

 He wouldn't look.

I'm obsessed with this outfit.....and the bat in the cave (i.e.booger)

 Daddy with K.C.
 Cute.....
This is what we send to daddy at work and Aunt-E while she is in class.

Happy 5 Months Henry!

Happy 5 months Henry!!

He's thinned out alot this month I think.

Weight:  Not exactly sure but I put him on the scale with me the other day and the difference was about 17lbs. Whoa buddy.
Length: No idea (he gets shots at 6 months so we will find out then.
Clothes: He is in 6-9mo stuff now but still fits his 3-6mo stuff if it's shorts or shirts because he is so skinny.
Likes: "standing up" while we hold him, the pool or bath, cereal and eating, his caterpillar toy, "O-ball" and whale toy. and most of all...HUGS! He will grab your face or neck and pull himself into you and put his nose against yours or his face into the crook of your neck. It's the sweetest thing!

He loves his daddy so much.
 trying to hug pops

He is lovin his new dinosaur that G&G Smith got him.

Dislikes: Being hungry, avacado, when the feeding trough food bowl is empty, dirty pants and that's about it. He is such a good baby.
Sleeping: He still goes to bed around 9-10pm and sleeps until 5am every single night. He takes a nap in the morning for a few hours and another one (usually with momma before I work) from 1-4 each afternoon and then a little catnap after he eats around 5pm.

Eating: We started cereal this month. It's hilarious to watch him eat it because he is obsessed with it. He tries to shoved the spoon in himself and get so excited when he sees me mixing it in his bowl and gets put in his bumbo seat. We tried avacado as his first food other than cereal and he HATES it. He gags every time he tries a bite of it and spits it out. I have tried it three times and ruled out an allergy and we will try it again later when his palate is a little more "advanced". I think our next veggie is green beans. He is otherwise still on breastmilk 100%, nursing or by bottle when I'm gone.

Look at all that hair!!

This bib= God send. It saves me so much laundry time, rinses clean, covers well and catches drips.

Playing: He is getting more and more into his toys, playing with them, looking at them, trying to eat them. We took a few to the pool today and he liked watching the water dump out of his cups and splashing his ball into the water.

Other Milestones: Outside of starting pureed food he is just trying to sit up soooo hard. He will lift and hold his sholders and head off of any surface for a long time and tries to do a sit up basically. He will sit but he usually tips to the side fairly quickly or folds in half forward. It's just a matter of time before he is off to college....wait...what?

What Dr. Grossman Said: We didn't get to see Dr. Grossman this month because he wasn't due for shots. So I will update on that next month.
